Dear Fellowship of the Perpetually Tired,
My name is Kenny Silva, and I’m the new pastor of Hickory Grove Church—you know, the one where Covenant Family Child Care is located. My family and I are thrilled to join this community. Slowly but surely, I’m getting to know your kids. I hope to get to know you, too.
I just wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself and let you know that I feel your pain… I mean I:your pain share with you in the immense privilege and joy of raising young children. Cesar (6), Ellie (4), and Sophie (2) give us a run for our money. #4 promises to add to the joy in May 2021.
I also wanted to let you know that I’m here to help.
I won’t pretend to have this parenting thing figured out. Not even close. But I know what it’s like to change diapers, wipe noses, and arbitrate toy disputes all day. I know the joys of belly-laughing with the kids and the sorrows of having lost my temper again. I know how hard it is to have meaningful relationships (even with your spouse) when you’re out of gas by 7 PM.
If there’s ever anything you need—whether it’s a sympathetic ear to listen as you vent, a counselor to help you through a rough patch, or a pastor to lift you and your family up in prayer— I’m here and eager to help. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch or stop by after you drop off your kid(s).
I hope you know that I count you all a part of Hickory Grove’s extended family. On that note, I’d like to invite you to our Christmas Eve service on 12/24 at 6:30 PM. We’ll have readings, songs, candles, and a short message from yours truly. Rumor even has it that Mr. Dave will be there to read a special story just for the kids.
Whether you can make it or not, I hope to see and get to know you very soon.
Merry Christmas!
Kenny
P.S. In CFCC’s December newsletter, you saw a very nice picture of our family at its most photogenic and well-behaved. The one I’ve included with this letter is a lot closer to reality…
