When our hearts condemn us and we lament how little fruit we see in our Christian walk, John reminds us that God is greater than our hearts. At first, that’s terrifying. God peers deeper into our hearts than we ever could and knows more about us than we even know ourselves. But, as we’ll see in this sermon, we can find confidence—not so much in our fruit—but in the root of faith that God has implanted by His grace and in the power of His Spirit.
