Thank you for the prayers over the past 7 months for my cousin Anna's husband Dr. Geoff Vana. Geoff was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome, a rare and life-threatening neurological disorder in which the immune system attacks the nerves, causing rapid weakness and paralysis. Within hours, everything changed, leading to life support, prolonged hospitalization, and a battle with sepsis.Adding to the weight of it all, Geoff became a patient in the very ICU where he works, every healthcare professional's nightmare, yet also a profound blessing to be surrounded by his work family. Recovery from GBS is a marathon. Thank you for your prayers that sustained Geoff, Anna, Aiden and J.P. Geoff is slowly returning to work as of February. Praise be to God!!!

Maggie R

Maggie had a clinic visit today. Her numbers continue to improve on their own and she did not need any infusions. She has been growing stronger and gaining weight. Maggie is doing so well, in fact, that she can go home sooner than expected! Barring any changes in Maggie’s status this week, Caitlin and Maggie will head back to Cleveland Thursday after Maggie’s next clinic visit. Maggie will continue to come to Jackson weekly for checkups. Maggie must remain quarantined at home for a long time as she is still at risk for complications, especially during these first 100 days.

The Lord has been so kind to answer so many prayers on Maggie’s behalf. Please continue to pray:

- That Maggie would remain safe from transplant complications

- That Maggie would remain safe from colds, flu, and RSV during this winter sick season.

- For the whole family as we adjust to a new normal.

Zach’s uncle, James, suddenly passed away at age 60. Please pray for his entire family, but mostly for his wife, Julie, as she navigates this grief. Pray that she leans on the Lord through this difficult time and finds peace in Him.

I would like to add Trish Divincenzo and Jackie Divincenzo to the prayer list. Trish's husband, my Uncle J.R., died at 55 of cancer. They had been together 40 years, and Jackie, his daughter, is 24. They don't have much support, and my aunt (Trish) is really taking it hard. I pray for comfort and peace during this tough time for our family. Thank you. Update (1/27): We had asked for prayer for our friend Debbie who was experiencing sleep deprivation. She has now recovered after a brief period of hospitalization. She is back to her normal activities. Thank you for your prayers for her.

Please pray for our friend Debbie. She is currently experiencing sleep deprivation. If she is not able to get some sleep in the next few days she will be hospitalized. She is concerned about this because she wants to be able to see all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren over the holidays. She has a history of sleep deprivation and she knows if she goes to the hospital that she will be there for six to ten days. If she misses this time with her family she will be very disappointed. Please pray for God's will in this situation. Thank you for praying with us.

My friend Judy who has been very ill for last few years is struggling.

She has now moved from Bloomington Indiana back to Owensboro Ky (our hometown)

She is in an assisted living and minimally ambulatory

She doesn’t go anywhere except to the doctor on a handicapped bus.

I recently visited her over thanksgiving weekend and I am not sure she is dealing rationally with the situation. She is minimally motivated to increase her strength and continues to focus on going back to living alone (as she was for a short time after the move back to Owensboro)

Pray for her salvation and honesty in dealing with the new normal of her life and dealing with her physical limits.

Pray for her depression and isolation. She stays in her room most of the time.

Thank you all for praying for her these past few years. It’s made the difference and she’s felt them, but she still is resistant in dealing with her relationship with God.

Dear HG family,

I have a new prayer request and wanted to also just send an udate on an ongoing one on the list:

First, we have close friends who's three-month-old grandson, Joshua, will undergo major heart surgery tomorrow. The procedure would take a minimum of six hours, but more likely longer. Please lift up this family and everything that goes along with such a major medical situation.

Second, without going into any detail, I would appreciate some prayers for some complicated family situations back home. The Lord knows the details.

And lastly, an update on Mohammed that we have ben praying for a long time:

For those don't know the background, Mohammed is one of my English students. He is from Afghanistan. He did a lot of contract work during the war. During the craziness of the final withdrawal he was advised to leave for his own safety, but could not take his family with him. The situation in Afghanistan continues to deteriorate. So he is very anxious about their safety. The process of reuniting is just extremely slow, despite him following every letter of the law. My heart breaks for him every conversation I have with him. It is clear that he is a family man. His green card was finally approved recently, but 3 months later he still has not recieved it. Please pray for him for every detail, and for so many Afghan families who are in the same situation. Please pray for people to be properly vetted so that those who served us well will not pay for the consequences of others who harbor illwill. And please pray that I will know how to love him well, to know how to support him, and to show him Jesus in all my interactions with him.

Thank you for taking the time to read and pray for these requests. Sometimes we just have nowhere else to turn.

Under His grace
