Marriage isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. Husbands and wives can often be selfish and self-centered, leading them to rebuff the other’s desires and later regret their coldness. That’s exactly what we see in this part of the Song, but we also see that even amid the coldness, unity remains. In the end, the two come back together, and they show us how to stay together even when the low-grade trials of marital life threaten to drive us apart.
